Comfort-focused dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

Extra support for patients who feel anxious, have a strong gag reflex, or need longer treatment.

Care designed around your smile, comfort, and long-term health.

Coming to the dentist can make some patients very nervous. Whether it is due to a bad experience in the past, lack of trust, or general anxiety, we are confident that we can ease your fears at our office.

Dr. Jeff and his team are experts at making both kids and adults feel comfortable during treatment. For patients who need a little bit of extra help, Dr. Jeff offers Oral Conscious Sedation (OCS). Patients are given oral sedatives and nitrous oxide until they are comfortable in the chair. This is a safe and effective way to complete treatment while limiting pain, anxiety, and even gagging.

Sedation Dentistry FAQs

What is sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses medication or nitrous oxide to help patients feel more relaxed during dental care. The right option depends on your anxiety level, health history, and planned treatment.

Who may benefit from sedation dentistry?

Patients with dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex, difficulty getting numb, complex treatment needs, or past negative dental experiences may benefit from discussing sedation options.

Is oral conscious sedation the same as being asleep?

Oral conscious sedation helps you feel deeply relaxed, but it is not the same as general anesthesia. Many patients remain responsive and breathe on their own during treatment.

Do I need someone to drive me after sedation?

For many sedation appointments, especially oral conscious sedation, you will need a responsible adult to drive you home. Your team will give instructions before the visit.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Sedation is planned around your medical history, medications, age, and treatment needs. Odessa Family Dental reviews safety factors before recommending a sedation option.
