Treatment may be divided by area and performed with local anesthesia when appropriate. Recommendations vary with disease extent and patient comfort.
Treatment does not end after scaling and root planing
The gums are reevaluated after initial therapy. Some patients transition to periodontal maintenance at an interval based on disease history and response. Persistent deep pockets, bleeding, mobility, or other concerns may require additional treatment or referral. Periodontal care works alongside preventive dentistry, but ongoing maintenance is tailored to the patient’s periodontal diagnosis.
