Different Types of Dental Implants

Exploring the Different Types of Dental Implants?

Published: Updated:

At Odessa Family Dental, dental implants have made it easier and more predictable to replace missing teeth. These small titanium posts are placed into the jawbone and act like natural tooth roots. They provide a strong base for artificial teeth that look and feel real. While the main idea behind implants is the same, there are different types available depending on your dental needs and bone health.
Understanding the types of implants helps you make better choices for your smile. Each type varies in design, how it’s placed, and who it’s best for. Our team is here to guide you every step of the way, so you can feel confident in your dental care.

Types of Dental Implants We Offer

There are two main types of dental implants:

1. Endosteal Implants

These are the most common type. They are put straight into the jawbone and look like tiny screws. They are strong and offer long-lasting support for replacement teeth.

2. Subperiosteal Implants

These sit on top of the jawbone but underneath the gums. They are a good choice if you don’t have enough bone and can’t or don’t want to have bone grafting surgery.
We help you choose the right type of implant based on your bone structure, oral health, and lifestyle.

How Each Implant Type Is Placed

The implant is surgically placed into the jaw, and then time is given for it to heal and bond with the bone.
Subperiosteal implants don’t go into the bone. Instead, a metal frame is placed under the gum but on top of the jawbone.
Both types help restore chewing, speaking, and your smile. We work closely with you to decide which option fits your comfort and health goals best.

Materials and Techniques That Matter

Most dental implants are made of titanium, a strong, safe metal that blends well with the body. For those who prefer a metal-free choice, zirconia implants are also available.
Thanks to new technology, we use advanced tools like 3D imaging and guided implant surgery. This helps us place implants more accurately and with less discomfort. In some cases, we can even place a temporary tooth on the same day as your implant!

Who Can Get Dental Implants?

Most healthy adults are good candidates. You need to have enough bone in your jaw and healthy gums. If you’ve lost bone, we may recommend bone grafting to prepare the area for an implant.
Even if you’ve been told in the past that you’re not a good candidate, Odessa Family Dental may have new solutions for you thanks to the latest advances in dental care—like mini implants or regenerative techniques to rebuild bone and gums.
