Everything You Need to Know About Dental Implants

Everything you need to know about Dental Implants

Published: Updated:

Dental implants are one of those treatments people hear about for years before they finally ask about them. By the time most patients sit down with me, they are not looking for a sales pitch. They want to know whether an implant will feel solid, how long the process takes, whether it hurts, and whether it makes sense for their mouth.

A note about financing: Implant treatment is a bigger decision than a routine filling, so we talk through payment options before treatment starts. Odessa Family Dental works with CareCredit, Proceed, Sunbit, Cherry, CareFi, and LendingClub. The right option depends on the treatment plan and approval terms, but the goal is simple: help patients understand the monthly-payment side of treatment before they commit.

This guide is my plain-English version of that conversation. No scare tactics. No miracle language. Just what implants are, when they help, and when another option may be better.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a tiny, strong metal piece (usually made of titanium) that acts like the root of a real tooth. We gently place the implant into your jawbone. Once it’s healed, we attach a crown, bridge, or denture on top. Implants look and feel just like real teeth, giving you comfort, better chewing, and a confident smile.

Dr. Jeff’s perspective

Dental implants are not just about replacing teeth. They are about choosing the right foundation, bite, and long-term maintenance plan for each patient. At Odessa Family Dental, Dr. Jeff Slutskiy, DMD, FICOI, evaluates bone, gum health, bite forces, medical history, and smile goals before recommending single implants, snap-in dentures, or All-on-X treatment.

Does It Hurt?

We use local anesthesia at Odessa Family Dental, so you won’t feel pain during the implant surgery—just some pressure or vibration. Afterwards, you might have mild swelling or bruising for a few days. Most people compare the discomfort to having a tooth removed. Over-the-counter pain relievers and ice packs usually keep you comfortable.
Following your personalized after-care instructions will help you heal quickly and enjoy all the benefits of your new, natural-feeling smile!
